Started by an American, Florintine Ariosto Jones, in 1868. The idea was to build watches using skilled Swiss workers for the USA market – ironic as in 1944 the American Airforce accidentally bombed the factory. No lasting damage though and the IWC brand is one that signifies luxury and practicality. With big faces the IWC pilot’s watches are real things of beauty and wonderfully engineered.
