ROBINSON has announced the price of its eagerly-awaited turbine powered R66 helicopter and is taking orders for the aircraft.

Base price of the R66 is US $770,000, with the standard King radio and Garmin GTX327 transponder. More sophisticated avionics including a Garmin 430 navcomms unit are extra. Instrumentation is standard analogue.

The R66 is based on the R44 four-seater but bigger all round. It has a luggage bay said to be big enough to carry a set of golf clubs, and one extra seat in the back. Gross weight is 2,700lb, empty weight 1,280lb. Cruise speed is approx 120kt, max range approx 325nm, max fuel 73.6 USG (493lb).

Robinson hasn't said much about the R66 apart from, "The Robinson R66 Turbine is a five-place helicopter that incorporates many of the design features of its reputable predecessor, the R44, including a two-bladed rotor system, T-bar cyclic and an open interior cabin configuration.

"The most notable differences are its increased reserve power and altitude performance, fifth seat and large baggage compartment. HID landing lights, leather seats, and a stereo audio control panel are standard in the R66."
